How To See Your Doctor
Our aim is to offer all patients an appointment on the day of their choice with the doctor of their choice, if possible.
We offer several types of GP appointments at Kingsway Surgery, these are:
- Prebookable appointments made by phone for the following working day
- Online prebookable appointments
- On the day routine appointments with the ANP
- Telephone Consultations
You may consult any of the doctors. Of course, if one doctor has been dealing with a particular problem, please mention this when booking your appointment and we will try to accommodate your request.
Appointments can be made in the following ways:
By Telephone
If you wish to call for an appointment please telephone 0116 289 5081.
Following patient feedback, we now have now abolished the automated appointment system.
If you feel the problem is something that requires attention the same day, you can telephone the surgery at 8:00am for an on the day appointment. If there are no face to face appointments available, you will be put on to a GP telephone list. They will then telephone you the same day and discuss matters, including how best to proceed with treatment.
Should you wish to pre-book an appointment, please telephone the surgery after 10:00am.
Please remember to listen to the options carefully when telephoning the practice.
Online Booking
We have now increased the number of appointments that are available to be booked online. We have placed these appointments at various different times throughout the day and each GP working has appointments available to book with them. We have found that this is a very popular option for people who wish to book appointments around work and family commitments. If you wish to register for this service please collect the registration forms from reception.
If you have already registered for the service then please use the link below to access the SystmOne online booking system:
Cancellations
It is the patients’ responsibility to attend their appointment at the specified time. If, before your appointment, you no longer need to see the doctor, then please ring the practice to let us know. We will then be able to offer your slot to another patient.
Telephone Advice
To access telephone advice or information from a doctor or nurse, please telephone reception who will pass on your query to the relevant member of staff who will call you back when they are next available.
Furthermore, we do offer a telephone consultation service with the GP for patients who believe their problem can be attended to over the phone. To make a telephone consultation appointment, please call before 10:00am on the day you wish to speak to a GP
Alternatively, for more general advice and health enquiries, please call NHS 111.
Home Visits
Home visit appointments are for housebound patients only. Please do not book a visit if you know you are able to get to surgery. If you wish to arrange a home visit, please call the surgery before 11:30am.
Late Arrivals
If a patient is more than five minutes late for an appointment, they may not be seen. The Recption Team will check with a Clinician if they will still be able to see a patient, if they arrive between 5-10 minutes late. This is due to the reason that if a patient arrives late for their appointment, it pushes the Clinician behind their working schedule. This makes it unfair on patients who have arrived on time and for those requiring visits on that day. Any patient arriving over ten minutes late will not be seen and will have to re-arrange their appointment.
Clinicians do their best to meet the individual needs of patients within the time allocated. Unfortunately, this is not always possible depending on the complexity of the issue and may cause the Clinician to fall behind. Staff endeavour to inform waiting patients if this event occurs.
Thorpe Astley
We are opening a new site at Thorpe Astley that will run two days a week from the 30th April 2018. You are now able to pre-book appointments for this service. Please note it is a single GP service only. When booking by phone, please make sure you select the appropriate option for the site.
